Hi. I am Mike Surel and have been in the software industry for over 25 years. I am starting this blog and an associated YouTube channel to share some of my thoughts and experiences I have gained from over a quarter century in this industry. There are a TON of resources available to learn programming languages, the latest frameworks, best practices and a lot of technical things. Some of the things I feel are missing, and that we do poorly as an industry, are to look back at our history and learn from it. I feel we unnecessarily re-invent a lot of wheels. I feel that many software engineers focus too much on the ‘how’ and that a focus on the ‘why’ can have a much faster and larger impact. I believe that many engineers focus a lot on being clever when they would be better served revisiting, understanding and solidly implementing good strong fundamentals. I hope you will join me on this journey, that what I share provides some value and that we can continue learning from each other and getting better in what is still a very young industry.
